1. Introduction

This guide will be centred around how and when you should go about posting, it's worth reading if you're new to the forums and want to avoid warnings/infractions; while it may also have some value to existing members that want to refresh their memory. I hope everyone gets a chance to read it all, especially the re-offending users and newbies spamming it up. Some of the forums features like KBank, cookies, awards and awards will also be discussed, so maybe you'll learn something new.

----------------------

2. Rules

There's a contract you have to sign when registering the forums, if like most people you barely read it and clicked accept (or simply forgot), here's some explanation.

Quote:
All posts should be made in the correct section and if you have problems with those sections
This shouldn't be too hard to comply to as each section is carefully labelled with a description. If you're really unsure about which section your thread lies in, get a second opinion from someone who's familiar with the forums:- staff, ex mods, veterans, top posters, etc; they will be able to help you in making a decision. If the section you made your thread in is controversy, it will be automatically moved to where the forum-mod seems fit and you shall no receive punishment; however if you simply did not bother to find the right section, you will be warned/infraction according to the situation.

Quote:
We understand that feelings and emotions will come into play with some of the discussions/posts, but we ask you to please be respectful when someone asks you to stop and do not go above and beyond minor disputes.
Everyone shares different opinions and views, try not to talk down to anyone simply because they have different ideas or beliefs, it's ignorant and disrespectful. This doesn't mean you can't argue/debate, you're welcome to but don't take it too far or you'll be asked to stop; by all means use VM/PM if you're both dedicated to rip each other apart, don't let it disrupt anyone else.

Quote:
Use the search button before posting a thread, just to make sure a thread such as yours has not already been posted.
Self explanatory, there's a global search button on the navigation tab, as well as search options in sections/threads. Using search will help prevent you from making duplicate threads (commonly suggestions) and looking like an idiot, however the exception is..."you can repost a thread as long as it's in the (archives) or hasn't been posted on for 14+ days. " - Brittany

Quote:
Spamming is strictly against the rules, we do not spam here, and if you wanna spam go to the 'SPAM' Section
Information on the different types of spam: http://sg-forum.com/news/announcements/69295-%5Bread-now%5D-spam.html

Code:
"but Mircast, how do I avoid spamming?"
Well, it's easy and I write it on most of my threads to drill it into people's skulls; READ and THINK before you post. Is what you're posting relevant/valid? Is it under 3-words? Will it cause an unnecessary argument? Use your brain!

Quote:
Don't post on topics that haven't been posted on for 14+ days. To avoid Gravedigging look at the date of the last post posted.
Easy rule, simple math, no exceptions. It doesn't apply to stickies and I suggest that you bump your thread before the 14-day mark unless it has no use; don't bump a dead thread, guides/debates are general exceptions. To be honest every thread that surpasses 14 days should automatically go to the archive section to prevent grave-digging; I wish.

Quote:
You can't trade SilabGarza items/gp/accounts for Runescape items/gp/accounts.
This rule is very obvious, don't try to make easy money off a RSPS you don't pay to host. No exceptions you will be infracted and perhaps even banned/ip'd if not careful

Quote:
Don't post on Reports in the Black Market section unless you have information regarding the report.
Don't post on a Donation thread that is not yours, or if it has nothing to do with you.
Self explanatory, if it doesn't concern you, don't get involved. With donations, you can't post on anyone's thread except your own now so there's no problems regarding that (rule should be removed).

Quote:
Ban Evading - If you are banned from the forums and you make a new account to post, that's called Ban Evading. Doing this will result in 3 days banned added to the account that was banned first.
If you're account has been banned it means you're banned from posting too; making another account to post anything OTHER than a APPEAL is an offence and you will be punished.

Quote:
Posting Nudity anywhere other than the Mature 18+ section won't be tolerated.
I'm pretty sure you understand this very well, from what I'm aware you can post mild things anywhere else just not nudity (so no b00biez!).

----------------------

3. Style of Posting

Code:
"Style of posting? Wat dat"
We all have different ways of writing; varied levels of grammar, punctuality as well as unique personalities which (if you ask me) show in the way that we write. Before you ponder, this isn't an English lesson neither am I on your back for any mistakes you make in your text but I ask of one thing: keep it legible.

Which means: -
  • Avoid excessive use of CAPTAIN CAPS LOCK
  • Illegible fonts like the following are unacceptable, test, test, test
  • Try to contrast your fonts colour...the forum backgrounds are dark
  • wRiTinG lIkE tHiS iS FuCkInG aNnOyInG
  • Use spell-check (if your browser has it, shouldn't be much of a hassle)
  • No intensive trolling, sure it's fun sometimes but keep that shit in spam; you only look a douchebag

Again, this isn't grammar-Nazi camp, as long as your posts are clean and people can understand them; by all means you win. I'm only encouraging people to be neat/tidy with their posts.

6. KBank

Vbullentin has an add-on named "KBank" which allows users to earn points which can be used in the "KShop" to buy certain items, that may or may not alter your experience on the forums. Points are earned simply through replies and making threads; here's a point table. (Keep in mind no points are earned from posts in the spam section)

Code:
kBank Policy
Posting New Thread: 3 Points
Posting New Reply: 2 Points
You're able to manage your points via KBank->Account management; where you can view your balance, transactions and donate to whoever you wish

Spoiler

What do you do with points? Currently our KBank system isn't expanded at all so there's only two items you can buy (one of them is worthless) among them, the "Customize Userinfo" is used by a vast majority of the forums. Self-explanatory from it's name, it lets you to change your name/title (don't get it confused with your username, which is what you use to log in and won't ever change) as well as the colour; this lets you personalize your userspace among avatars and signatures.

The second item being the Medal of Honor which does absolutely nothing and the only time you can see it is if you go on your profile, under the Statistics *tab. (Fuck dat yo')

Spoiler

Lastly you can activate your purchased items through KBank -> My Items -> "Enable item" (note that these items last forever)

Spoiler

That's all you need to know about KBank, short eh? I'd talk about selling and taxing items but with our active system we don't have a KBank economy, since we're short on items and they don't have durations. (It's not like anyone but myself would request it anyway)

PS. The owner of KBank is http://sg-forum.com/members/3643-chaos-mager.html

8. Awards (Removed)

Through vBExperience (vb mod) users can earn awards by fulfilling certain requirements, each award has it's own relevant fields. Refer to: http://sg-forum.com/xperience.php?go=awards

Currently there are 6 default awards with no intention of adding new/custom ones; only 3 of them are obtainable (activity, frequent poster, calender).
Code:
Most Popular issued for ftwguy on 02-01-2012 08:02 AM.
Fields used: Reputation
Do we even have reputation any more or is there something I'm not seeing? I have no clue on that field

Code:
Activity Award issued for Mircast on 03-18-2012 02:20 AM.
Fields used: Activity
Whoever holds the highest percentage of activity is rewarded with the activity award (read the activity section in my guide)

Code:
Posting Award issued for Skullcracka on 03-18-2012 03:40 AM.
Fields used: Threads, Votes, Replies, Views, Stickies, Tags, Posts, Attachments
Earned through the most thread creation, replies, votes, views of created threads, etc; it's pretty self-explanatory and only a forum mod is capable of getting it, there's no way you can fulfil the stickies field or compete against the amount of posts a report sectional mod (marco) creates. Cross this award off your list

Code:
Community Award issued for Swastika on 02-01-2012 08:02 AM.
Social engaged
Fields used: Visitormessages, Socialgroups, Friends, Reputation
Again, no reputation field; not too sure how "Swastika" got it, he has one friend, 6 visitor messages and no social groups.

Code:
Frequent Poster issued for Daviss on 03-14-2012 11:20 AM.
User likes to post
Fields used: Average Posts per Day
Daviss: "Posts Per Day: 0.45" (lol)

Code:
Calendar Award issued for Debutante on 01-13-2012 02:50 AM.
Engaged with events
Fields used: Calendar Events
Spam events on the calendar, that's all it is
http://sg-forum.com/calendar.php

There's your brief on awards, there's really much to say apart from they need to be removed/reset and even changed so that people have a fair chance of acquiring them. (They're just a throw-away feature atm)

----------------------

9. Cookies

Cookies are a reward-system which later replaced reputation. They are normally given to posts that the user deems are "helpful" or to which they are "thankful" to. If you wish to give your appreciation to a post you may cookie it, located at the bottom-right hand corner of their post; the icon clearly symbolized. Cookies serve no current purpose and are described as "eye-candy", the more cookies you have shows how thankful people are to you (not always the case).

There's no rules regarding cookies set in stone but Brittany seems to dislike people abusing the system, (mass-giving) and you'll have to deal with her if you get yourself into trouble(don't bring me into it!). How about you try it for yourself and give me a cookie for spending countless hours on this guide?

w00t! First

jk, but in all seriousness, this is a very good guide that all players should read before entering the forums. IF everybody had read and understood this, SG Forums would be a much better and more organized place
