Default Our parents are a fucked up generation. - 12-09-2013, 02:45 PM

If you come and think of it, our parents really are a fucked up generation. Weed was awesome, smokes were thought of as healthy and everybody drank themselves to falling asleep and them crawled home.

Glad I live in the generation of lifters.
This pretty much defines my parents:

idk about your parents, but mine never thought smoking/drinking was okay

back then it was heavily integrated into society and everything did it (there wasnt great research into the effects)

My parents drink wine every day, my mom used to smoke. I got asthma and other complication because of that but she won't admit it.

It probably depends on country, education, but I can tell you that, outside of my school 90% of the people smoke. In my school maybe 2%

It seems as if my parents are pretty narrow minded when it comes to health. They said they rather give me money for smokes than protein shakes.

Your parents are a bad influence so it seems.

My mom used to smoke cigs when she was younger, but she quit. My dad smoked weed when he was a kid, but he quit. They knew it was time to become responsible adults, and wanted to look out for the well-being of me and my siblings.

Sure they still drink, but not to the point of being absurdly drunk, and they would never drive after drinking.

Seems like some solid rules to go by.

OT: With in reason, it shouldn't matter what societies views on what's right and wrong are. You should of been brought up with a the intelligence and judgement skills to be able to determine what's right and wrong for yourself.

I think they're two of the most important skills parents can teach, as no matter where you come out of life with grade, friends etc, those two things will always be a benefactor.

All my parents thought me was to sort things out myself, I can tell you that my parents have few things to do with my education. They keep it legal but that's about it. If I ever wanted something they told me go fucking work for it.

My parents have the 'Do whatever the fuck you wanna do' attitude. They don't seem to notice how my failing health is their failure as a parent.
Whenever somethings broke in the house its my fault.
Whenever a bill is to high its my fault.

My dad is really intelligent but not a man to raise teens, my mom is really dumb and always gets angry at me because she's somehow mad that I'm smarter?!

I could say I live like an animal. I live in group but sort it out alone. I put my own foods on the shopping list, if its not on i'll have none. If I ever wanted something like a phone I had to go work my ass of for it, my bankaccount is empty as fuck because 'I should work for it myself'. I need a car to go to university? K then go work for it. That's the kind of attitude they got.

I've got 2 sisters, 1 of which worked really hard, every day and still has a living below standard because my parents never financially supported her.
The other took of to some random country without anything, she's alive though.

I've got two quations on that.

1) Do you think when you end up having kids, will you do things differently?

2)How do you wish they'd raised you?

@Kayu10 I think I will be less impulsive towards my children, I'm writing myself a book on how I think about the world now. This way I'll be understanding to my children and not hypocritically punish them for mistakes I ones made.

In my opinion your children are the future and that's what people should work for. My parents suck up all money they find and spare it to travel abroad when they're old, which is really selfish imo. You don't just make children and play left4dead with them, which brings me to the next point.

Since children are the future I'd put everything I got in them. I'd make sure my children can match up to others and have a chance to feel good in their enviroment (forgot how to spell this LOL). I'd do everything in my power to ensure a good future for them, and so for the world. Which is the exact opossite what my parents do. If my son told me he wanted to lift and eat healthy I'd join him in the gym, be his personal trainer, eat the same as him etc. I'd be supportive towards my children, be their best friend, be their lifeguide, give them tips and not scream at them for having bad marks but sorting out why they have bad marks and why they do the things they do.

In my opinion my life ensists of making the life of my children perfect. The purpose of our life is to make a better future, so yes I would raise my children very diffrently. I'd 'spoil' them but make them aware that hard work is needed to actually earn money.

I would say 'Do whatever the fuck you wanna do'. If my children came in smoking I'd debate with them till they throw their smokes in the trashcan and realize that's not the way to live.

I'd want their life to be perfect and that's what I'm gonna try and make it. Idgaf if i'll be poor myself if im 60 or 70, i'll be an old useless, ugly fucktard with no purpose to society, the golden years of my life will have past. Youth is the time to live, not when you're gandalf the grey.
