Default Planning on my first Tattoo... - 08-18-2013, 06:52 AM

I was thinking about getting my first Tattoo sometime near October (My birthday month...)...
I've just got some question I hope some people can provide their insight upon.

1) Where do you get a Illustration designed for you?
I'm not wanting something off the internet I know what it is a I want, I just need someone to design it, where can this be done?

2) Is there anything to conciser before getting a tattoo?

3) I'm not wanting to get a Tattoo anywhere visible in 'work clothing' as I'm not in a job yet, meaning I don't want to get anything before i'm settled into a job and know what their stance on them are...
With that said, where's the best place to get one where people wont see unless I show them? I was thinking either upper ribs (side) or upper arm? But like I said, not sure...

That seems to be all for now.

There are some things that are felt but are not spoken about
They hurt the heart, but we never let them show
There are things that I need, but can't ever ask of you
And If you gave them to me, just because I asked
It won't be the same

That's not what he's asking. He's already decided that he wants one. I have a tattoo and it's one of the best choices I've ever made.

Upper arm is a good choice, that's where I got my first tattoo. I can wear shirts and it's still not visible to other people, but I can still see it if I want to.

I designed my tattoo myself. Usually, if you make a rough drawing yourself (as long as it's not abysmal) and take it to the artist, they can perfect it for you.

As for things to consider before having your tattoo done, you might want to think about getting some creams to numb yourself. It's quite uncomfortable and some tattoo artists don't keep creams but will use them if you have it yourself. I didn't bother but if you have a low pain threshold, it might be a good idea.

Just so you know getting a tattoo on your ribs will hurt like fuck.
Take a lot of time to make sure you're absolutely positive about what you want in terms of the design of the tattoo. It's a big decision, and a permanent one, so don't rush it at all.

Well I don't think I will. I love art and I adore things that are meaningful, so why not get two in one?

When I get old I'll look bad anyway... Tattoos wont make it much worse

tattoos are pointless, and have no taste whatsoever. Imagine when you're old and wrinkly, (I mean let's face it, it's gonna happen at some point), how would that saggy tattoo look?

In all fairness when you're old I don't think you'll care about how you look as much as when you're young. I know I won't.

You're arguing against something that has already been decided. I love my tattoo and I have plans for more. While you may not like them, putting them down and stating that they're pointless/ugly is unnecessary.

The argument that it'll look bad when I'm older is stupid, as I'm not going to look my best anyway. My grandfather has a tattoo that's 60 years old and it looks fine. If you look after your skin, you shouldn't have any problems. It seems as though you're just repeating what you've been told by uneducated people on the subject and as a result, have an uneducated opinion.

OT: If you don't mind me asking, what do you plan on having exactly?

When I get old I'll look bad anyway... Tattoos wont make it much worse

PHYSICALLY: The risk of getting a disease like Hepatitis from a tattoo artist that is not careful about sterilizing his/her equipment, the pain involved in getting one, the bleeding afterward

MENTALLY: Why would anyone think they need a tattoo to make themselves "better"? Also, if you get a tattoo because you think it's "cool" then you're applying the standards of the world.

SOCIALLY: People who have tattoos are often looked down upon as rednecks or low-lifes simply because they have tattoos, and people who have visible tattoos often get passed over for jobs by people who believe tattoos present an unprofessional appearance

Very helpful <3
I'm quite a good artist myself, I just don't want something of my own on me... yet?

I'd also save up a lot of money to get it done somewhere of good quality, or with the artist I want, I don't know if it works like that or not... but we'll see.
I'll look into creams though, a good idea actually and upper arm seems good now you say it to.

Yeah I'm not going for the Ribs them :'3
I wont rush it, someone told me that once you have the idea and design keep a hold of the idea and wait up to 6 months. If you still like the idea, then go ahead, since it's going to be for the rest of your life.
