Default Weight Lifting Supplements - 02-23-2012, 10:51 AM

Does anyone take any weight lifting supplements?

Basically I found this thing called SD Matrix and it's supposed to be amazing for muscle growth and gains...
I'm just a little skeptical about it so if anyone knows anything about it or its ingredients could you share some information on it?

Or, give some other suggestions?

Here's a couple of links to the product;

Imo it's always best to look at the side effects to decide if you're willing to take the cons with the pros.

One other reason we suggest sd matrix to be utilised after the age of 21 is that many people consider this age to be when your natural testosterone levels start to decline. I would be patient and capitalise your natural testosterone production whilst young and then harness the power of sd matrix later in life. This patient and careful approach will yield the most gains long term and certainly be the healthiest approach to gaining muscle mass.
So I'd say wait a while until you turn 21/22? ^.-

This sounds alright i.e. I haven't found any reviews that fully condemn this product, but you should be careful

I've been into gymming a really long time.
If you insist on using any supplements i'd suggest going with Twinlabs products, they're the most reliable in my opinion.
Don't bother with creatine and such, creatine stores water in your muscles making them heavy.
Glutamine is what you should take along with creatine if you don't want the water build ups.

Creatine is a powder (not exactly sure what it contains, but it has a lot of substances found in fish.
What it does is increases the amount of ATP cells in your muscles, meaning you'll be able to work out harder and longer.
It's like steroids but not that extreme and it doesn't directly affect your health.
If you're going to take creatine, remember to drink at least 4L of water a day.

Next up is protein, again I'd go with Twinlab (chocolate flavor is the only one that doesn't taste like ass.)
Eh, remember to take it AFTER you train, a lot of people say you should take it before but then you pretty much lose the effect.
The protein will be used in the process of your muscles recovering after a work out, if your muscles don't get enough protein they wont grow.
The excess protein will just go out with your urine.
Some of it will gather in your body as fat if you don't work out, and the protein takes a bit longer to digest than normal foods.
There for, if you're considering to stop training and you've been drinking protein shakes, work out for an additional 2 weeks to make sure you don't gain any fat (these two weeks should be done without taking protein shakes.

Personally, I don't take any supplements anymore, it's far too much effort and you really have to dedicate yourself to training.
I like to train when I have time, and do the type of training I'm in the mood for.
Hope this is the answer you were looking for.

Thanks for that Alexi.

I'll look into some Twinlabs protein powder.

I personally do take a shake just before and after training, pre-workout shakes are actually very good for you, check out this article for why - http://www.nutritionexpress.com/arti...articleid=1033

do not take that stuff.
it might lett your muscles grow but it's really bad for your body, if you don't have your full length you'll grow slower or stop growing, it could also be that you can't get an erection etc...

just gain muscles and strength the normal way, da gym.
