Default PC Operating Systems? - 09-04-2012, 07:37 AM

Does anyone know of any good free operating systems, or a VERY trust worthy site to get a copy of windows from.

I've already tried to get Zorin and Linux but they were both a bit faulty to be fair.

I'm only accustom to windows, but i don't have the money to buy a new copy of the OS.

It's for a brand new gaming PC too, so it needs to be able to be burnt onto a disc.

Linux is a free distribution. Using an application called "Wine", Linux users are able to run Windows applications just as they would be run through Windows, as it is a Windows emulation program. Very useful tool for Linux users. Don't fret about the "feel" either; Linux has an open-source kernel, allowing for the theme to be altered to your liking. There's even a distribution of Linux that feels exactly like Windows 7, but you'll have to get used to some of the other functionalities of the Operating System.

Alternatively, you can use your old Windows install disc if you still have it. Can't tell you how many times I have loaded Windows 7 onto my machine using the same disc. I even used the same disc to load Windows 7 onto my nephew's laptop.

Doing so would be illegal.

I'd say windows 7 from isohunt.com
Then make it activated with Windows Loader.

Will that work with a newly bought PC?
It has no OS at the moment. It would have to be burned into a CD then done that way when it boots up...

Windows came with my machine upon purchase, so yes, I have a legal copy of Windows.

Linux only being for "servers and geeks" is quite the generalization. The operating system was created to give a more fluid feel to your experience whilst on the computer; no restrictions whatsoever. You can do what you want with the desktop environment as well as the kernel, since the kernel is 'open'. On Windows, Mac, etc it is 'closed'. Those who are experienced in Bash will probably find the experience more customizable than the average user, but the average user can find use in the Operating System as well.

Your suggestion was illegal, and so I gave my truly free and no-strings-attached input by recommending Linux. Sorry if you don't agree with my views.

Eh I'm pretty sure windows 7 is like 40 euros, but besides linux there is no better free os, it is the way to go my friend, it's also becoming more user friendly.
