Default Linux - 08-17-2013, 04:36 AM

Yeah so I'm very new to Linux, I'm learning the ropes. But I'm trying to set up SilabGarza, and I have a small problem. My cache keeps corrupting no matter how often I clearn the folder where it gets downloaded to. I even tried retrieving my cache from my windows to linux, but it still says corrupt cache. I figured this might be a linux problem. I tried Wine too, but I can't seem to open jar or bat files with it.

Where am I doing something wrong?

I had the same problem and did a bit of research on it.

The files in the SilabGarza8 are dat and idx files. DAT and IDX files are data files for windows, and thus can't be run in Linux (kind of like trying to open a mac command in Windows). If you convert the DAT and IDX files to a linux equivalent it MAY work. Another possible solution would be to get a Windows VM/Emulator and run SG through that.

Any idea to what I should convert them to?

I really wouldn't convert them, the coding in java would probably interperet them incorrectly since it'd have different syntax. A windows emulator (perhaps VirtualBox or Windows Virtual PC) would have a much higher chance of working.

Alright I will try that. Wine obviously won't work because it can only run/install exe or msi files. If Wine could run jars that'd be great.

I'll let you know what happens.

Alright so I tested VirtualBox, it works like it should. Though, it's a lot of work just to set it up, so I'd rather switch to Windows 7, because of my dual boot. It's a way, but it's a shame that running it on Linux is (near) impossible.

Thanks for your help though. @N0vlafye

Don't worry I have win 7 installed, dual boot option for either Linux or Win 7. I'm just curious about Linux, because a lot can be done with it. I'm really new to it, but I'm eager to learn.
