Default Need Laptop Advice - 05-26-2012, 10:21 PM

Ok guys, I have been using the same laptop computer since the stone age and it works super well. The only problem is the graphics card and processor is very outdated and im looking to upgrade.

I currently have a Gateway NV53 series Laptop if that helps anyone help me.

I currently have AMD Athlon II X2 dual core M300 processor which is stock and not cutting it for me.

I was thinking i7 but I want to know more opinions on the matter.

If you do not know what you are talking about then just don't post please.

Thank you all who can help.

You should move this to the computer section.

Anyways, it depends. Do you want a laptop for gaming or for everyday tasks? If you want a laptop that's only for everyday applications I would go with a cheap 500 dollar laptop with an i5 or i7 processor , however if you want a gaming laptop. prepare to spend big bucks and carrying your charger around as they tend to have small battery life because of all the energy the graphics card is using up.

Oops wrong section, my bad.

But, like I said. I'm not looking for a new computer. Just to upgrade my current computer. Its mostly for gaming because I want to run diablo 3 without crashing again. Your post wasn't remotely helpful to this situation at all. :/

I just didn't want to post this huge explanation and not get a response, well then now that I know what your going for your probably going to have to be spending around the $700 - $1700 range to run diablo 3, at the seven hundred range your probably not going to get much, the most you'll get is probably an i3 dual core processor with a Nvdia GT 545. that will run you around 800 on a bargain laptop, granted it's not the best and though you will certainly not run ultra settings with 60 fps you can get a decent 30 fps on mid settings. One at the 1200 hundred range will get you an i7 processor with a Nvdia GTX 660M clocked at 3.3 gHz this laptop will handle most modern games on Ultra at around 40 50 fps. It all depends where you shop really, I would recommend just building a gaming rig instead if your not going to go anywhere as they tend to get you more for your money and can be easily upgraded.

Doesn't matter....

Also I have had someone tell me that he has only spent $800 on a new processor and graphics card and can run pretty much any game on high def settings. Where'd 1200 come into play?

kind of does. with the money you plan on getting an upgrade with, will cost you the same for getting a brand new computer.... me personally, i'd get the new computer verses buying a new processor because it's newer technology. i like to feel up-to-date on certain stuff.

Money doesn't matter to me. I don't need newer technology if I can just upgrade to the best graphics card and processor. If I can get that for $800 which Im pretty sure I can, I'll do it. The i7 processor is only about $350 and I cannot think of a graphics card being much more than that...

I can't really buy a computer with all that installed unless I want to spend 1500 on an AlienWare or Ases. which would be more than my computer and upgrades.

they pack in a new ivy bridge 3rd gen processor which means extreme performance. plus a great chipset great ram and a nvidia 650m. 650m's pretty serious graphics cards. don't doubt the power of this laptops. they also come with nvidia optimus technology so these high performance graphics cards don't drain your battery. it basically controls how much power the graphics card uses. ( i wouldnt reccomend gaming without it plugged in or you will only get 45 minutes of battery life but on normal conditions you can get up to 4 hours of battery life without gaming. you can also customize these laptops with different hard drives so it comes stock with a 7200rpm 750gb hard drive. these are very fast and have plenty of space for a laptop. or what i like to do for the extra money is i put in a 250gb solid state drive which makes the laptop blazing fast. this laptop comes with everything you need basically i highly reccomend it. here is the links. https://www.avadirect.com/Quick-Ship-Gaming-Notebooks
they are the first 2
trust me i know exactly what im talking about and the laptops above kick any alienwares ass and they are so much cheaper. there is no laptop that compares to these within the price range. literally. if u need a laptop for gaming every computer guy knows u go with clevo/sager.

take it from him that is the 11" model i posted you can ofcourse get the 15" for around $100 more. these laptops run diablo 3 no problem! btw motherboardsorg is very accredited in the pc gaming community.
he also says in a comment "...everything plays on it BF3/DAIBLO 3/ Mass Effect 3.... So far so good mate!!"

ok, so i did some research on an alienware. the laptop can range from $1,000 - 3,000 as far as i saw. but as for the alienware X51which starts at $700. you can customize it etc.. which i did, and it came up to $1459.97. maybe some of the components weren't necessary but who knows. this is what i got.
