I'm trying to learn how to convert a decimal (base 10) floating point, such as 12.2538, to a binary (base 2) floating point. Every time I write out a random number and try to do it, I fail. Is there some sort of condition to it? If you know how to do it and can explain it, I'd appreciate it.

I already know how to do binary to decimal (I think). The problem is every decimal I've tried to convert to binary so far never ended up the same way as any of the examples and instructional video I've seen. As for the link, Wiki just makes me cry with all the reading and terms that I don't know yet.

I'll probably just give up and hope the professor has mercy on me by helping out.
