Default Wireless Router? - 07-23-2011, 09:19 AM

Simple question:

Can I plug in a wireless router to my existing internet connection and get wireless?

If that's the case, can I set a password to make sure only people I want can get on?

I'm saying this because my new dorm (not even finished construction) does not have wireless. But I don't want to stay plugged into a wall all day.

I'm moving into a brand new dorm. Nobody has stayed there before. It has internet already setup, but not wireless. I want to know if I can just plug the internet cord into a new wireless router and be able to get wireless internet.

I'm going to ignore everything I just read in this thread because it was like, impossible for me to read so pardon me if I'm repeating something.

I'm assuming you have an Ethernet cord somewhere in your room, take that Ethernet cord and plug it into any wireless router you buy and you will have wireless. Use the setup disc on whatever computer you plan on using to setup your password and what not, if you ever forget the network password it's no big deal because there's a tiny little button in the back that you press and it resets all the previous settings.

Sometimes it gets a little more complicated than that but it generally doesn't.

Paper fingers knows what she's talking about, but most campuses have wifi, so you may just have to wait a bit and and have them install it.
