Default I live by these words as a programmer - 09-24-2012, 07:46 PM

Programming is merely understanding commands. At it's base (machine language. binary type programming) it's incredibly abstract. As you get higher and higher up the layers it becomes more concrete where we can express objects (Concepts essentially, bird, chair, singleton).
It's then learning how to express abstraction. Few things are actually physical. We work in the complete abstract. There aren't even as concrete as words. They are merely concepts. The words are just there to interpret for us. Programmers deconstruct and understand.
So in reality it's something so bizarre that it's difficult to relate to non programmers. It's fascinating to me that programmers often talk in concepts alone. When I speak to non programmers everything is similies. "So it's like a dog right?"
But when I talk to other programmers we don't need to bother with concrete things we discuss abstraction and meta things. They don't exist physically but they exist about physical things. So we can discuss that.
I find it breaks your mind. You almost undergo brainwashing to really get into it. You change your entire thought process to utilize abstraction. Analytical thought goes through the roof. Not to mention divergent thought and overall problem solving. It changed how I lived my life.

I read this on a forum, I one day hope to reach this level of zen, if your having trouble coding don't give up were part of a special breed!

I have tried but lost interest because I had no idea what I was doing
and why the code works.
I may start again but first I would have to learn why the code works and
not just start a tutorial on how to code.

Kind Regards, Aaron

There's a definite shift in thought process when you get into programming. For myself, I found that my thought process completely went through an overhaul after I started to program a little bit. Now, I don't really do in-depth programs (SUPER basic stuff), but I do understand fully what I have learned thus far and I can certainly say it has changed the way I think permanently.

This will eventually be my career. I sincerely enjoy programming, whether it be interpreted language or compiled. My preferred languages are Python and Java, though.

I hate when I have an error and the effing compiler says the message in one long sentence with out spaces between words, lol so much frusteration.
